Pre-Shopping Checklist

Plan ahead with these 5 Steps.

Pre-Shopping Checklist

Before you start shopping for furniture and accessories, it's helpful to have:

  • Room Measurements
  • Flooring Samples
  • Digital Pictures of your Space
  • Adequate Time

There are five keys to successful furnishing, and in this article we’ll give you a few tips to help you with your pre-shopping research and planning.

Take a few minutes to work through this list before visiting our showroom – you’ll gather valuable information to help you make the most of your time, money and space. And when you visit us at revolve furnishings, our interior decorators and designers will be happy to provide you with design consulting to help you create spectacular spaces in your home.

1. Measure it

Get started by pulling out your measuring tape and take accurate measurements of your space. If you purchase a sofa that is two feet too big, you’re probably not going to move walls to make it fit! Save frustration by planning ahead and making sure that your new furniture will fit easily into your space. Take digital pictures of your space as well, they’ll be extremely helpful to our design staff.

2. Function and style

Take a look at your space and think about its purpose – is it a space for entertaining, sleeping, dining? How many people do you want to entertain? To help you determine the mood or feel that you want for the room, do a bit of visual research by flipping through design magazines to see what attracts you – traditional or modern, clean lines or something more shapely and funky.

When you determine your room’s function and style, you’ll have a better idea of the size and type of furniture that will suit your room and it will be that much easier to target the right type when you start looking for furniture. Our designers and decorators can help you refine elements like traffic flow, function and the general feel of the room.

3. Budget

Before you begin shopping, it’s useful to develop a general sense of your budget. Many stores, including ours, offer great financing plans to stretch out the immediate cost of the purchase.

4. Durability

As you consider your budget, it is a good time to think about durability. How long do you want to keep your furniture? Two sofas may look the same on the showroom floor, but one may cost $1000 more because it is better quality and offers longer durability.

If you plan to update your room with new furniture frequently based on fashion trends, you may not want to pay more for longer durability. If you are looking for classic, timeless pieces then durability will be more important in your purchasing decision.

5. Patience

The last key to a well-designed room is patience. At revolve furnishings, we believe that you should be able to enjoy your furniture immediately and most of the furniture that you see on our showroom floor is in stock for immediate delivery.

However, furniture is usually available in hundreds of different colours and we may have a few different colours in stock. If you want to purchase a different colour than what is in stock, we will be happy to order it for you. This is where patience comes into play! It takes time for manufacturers to make and ship quality furniture. It won’t cost more to order the furniture, but it will take a little longer – many clients feel that the wait is worth it because they’ll have a room that is 100% unique!

If you do your homework on these five key areas, you’ll come away with a room that you love. Explore the design section of our blog for more information and useful tips. And for more advice, visit our showroom to speak with our interior designers and decorators.
