Selecting the Right Patio Furniture for Your Outdoor Living Space

August 31, 2012

With the first official day of summer come and past, we’re all hopeful that the rain we’ve been experiencing in Calgary will come to an end so we can get outdoors to take advantage of our outdoor living spaces! One of the best things about this time of the year is the fact that we are able to design and create an extra “room” in our homes to enjoy while we are spending time outdoors. While this comes easy to some people, others are in need of guidance when creating this space.

Your outdoor living space is where you can really have some fun, especially with unique furniture design, so our designers have created a five-step list of things you need to consider in order to create your perfect outdoor living space.

  1. Measure your space: It’s important to know how much space you have to work with when searching for the best modern furniture in Calgary. Be sure to note things like traffic patterns, sunny/shady spots, wind direction, and where the best views are located.
  2. Know how you will be using your space: Whether you plan on hosting fabulous summer parties, relaxing quietly on your own, or dining casually with your BFF or your other half, knowing which atmosphere you prefer will assist you in selecting your décor.
  3. Know your style: What feel would you like to convey with your outdoor living space? Is it modern, traditional, or retro? Items with wrought iron tend to have a more traditional feel to it, and aluminum and glass is more retro. Of course, we’re in favour of anything rattan with clean lines, as this has a more modern feel to it (and if you need help, we know a great showroom to get some of the best modern furniture in Calgary).
  4. Make a budget: You know what they say, “you get what you pay for”. An inexpensive set is great for the pocket book, but you’ll need to replace it much sooner than you think. Think of your patio furniture as an investment; something that will last you for years if it is good quality, and taken care of. When purchasing your patio furniture, check warranties and ask questions about how the frame and fabric will hold up to the elements. You’ll also want to take into consideration how you plan on storing your furniture, and how often you’ll be using it.
  5. Shop around: Before you purchase your new patio furniture, try it out! Head to the store to sit on the chairs, sprawl on the sofas, and put your feet up on the ottomans. You want to make sure you love every aspect of your furniture before you buy it.

Make the most of your outdoor living space this summer; it’s all about you and your guests being comfortable, relaxed, and enjoying the great outdoors!

A Young Buyers Guide to Buying Furniture

April 04, 2019

Furniture shopping is an exciting milestone for a young adult.

While hand-me-downs have a special sentimental value, there are not a lot of things that compare to the feeling of buying YOUR first couch, chair, or dining room table.
